How to Have Stress-Free Twin Newborn Photography

Twins truly are double the blessings.

If you’re a soon-to-be twin mama, I’m so excited for you to embark on this journey. The bond you’ll have with each of your children will be so beautiful. You’ll get to witness the incredible bond that twins have with each other up close. A twin newborn photography session is a must to be able to slow down and soak in these fleeting moments with your twin babies. I know it can feel overwhelming to plan for a twin newborn photography session, so I have my best tips for you below.

If you need anything or have questions, you can send me a message here. I’m always happy to help.

Book Your Newborn Photographer Early

I have many reasons why you should book your newborn photographer early. With twins, it’s especially important for a few reasons. First, twins tend to be early (but not always), so you need to be on your photographer’s radar long before the due date. Second, it’s not uncommon for twins to spend some time in the NICU, so you might have to wait for your newborn session. Staying in communication with your photographer will be helpful for planning this special session.

Have an Extra Set of Hands at the Session

On the day of the session, it’s very helpful to have a second pair of hands to help with the babies. My mamas receive professional hair and makeup before their session, so having some help means mom can relax and enjoy being pampered. If you’re including older children in the session, it’s helpful to have some help when we photograph just the babies. Luckily, my hair and makeup artist stays to assist during the client session as that extra pair of hands.

Give Yourself Time

Double the babies means double the fun. Give yourself time to get ready before the session so that you’re not rushed. During the session, we will move along at a comfortable pace, but it will take some time to get all the portraits we want. Finally, don’t plan something immediately after the session if you can help it. This helps you focus on the present moment with your babies, and you won’t feel pressured to hurry up the session. Because the truth is that we’re not in charge here…

Baby-Led Session

Your babies are the ones leading the sessions, and we get to follow their leads! If you haven’t heard of baby-led photography, I’d love to share more. This is a very natural style of photography that doesn’t include a lot of posing. Instead, we focus on your bond and capturing all those precious little details. During the session, I’ll try some safe and gentle posing with the babies together and then solo. But again, it’s all about what your babies want.

Your family will spend time together just relaxing and loving each other. I’m just there documenting with my camera.

Dressing Your Twins

With twins, I recommend keeping their outfits simple and neutral with minimal accessories. This way, the focus is on your beautiful babies. At Reflections Photography, my clients have access to my client wardrobe. It includes clothing for the whole family and kids up to size 10. All the newborn wraps, diapers, and blankets we’ll need are here. It’s one less thing you have to worry about on the day of your session.
